ROBERT PIERSON is an Austin, Texas-based artist: an actor, director, singer-songwriter, audio engineer, producer, and educator.
Theatre work includes: Waiting for Godot, and Caught (Hyde Park Theatre), Love and Information (UT Theatre), It is Magic (B. Iden Payne Award, Actor in a Comedy), The Goat, or Who is Sylvia, and The Strangerer (Capital T Theatre), Catalina de Erauso (paper chairs), The Bigot (UTNT - UT New Theatre), The Hotel Vanya (Natalie George Productions), Bright Now Beyond, Pinkolandia, Dream Cabinet, and Heddatron (Austin Critics Table Award, Supporting Actor in a Comedy) (Salvage Vanguard), Not Clown and The Kindermann Depiction with Physical Plant Theater, and The B. Beaver Animation, Cherrywood, and Lipstick Traces with the Rude Mechs. He is a company member with Rude Mechs. The Rude Mechs were inducted into the Austin Arts Hall of Fame in 2014 by the Austin Critics Table.
Robert's film acting work includes: Slacker, The Eternal, The Remnants of Civilization and the Dawn of Anxiety, and some voice-over work.
A singer, songwriter, engineer and producer, he was a member of the indie rock bands Bigamy Sisters, and The Able Sea. He recorded those band as well as others at his home studio: The SPA. You can hear those bands and other music at: robertpierson.bandcamp, Youtube, or streaming services.
Robert holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Communication (Performance Studies, 1987) and a Master of Education in Special Education (Visual Impairment, Creative Therapies, 1995), both from The University of Texas at Austin. He was on the faculty at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (TSBVI) from 1990-2021. He taught English, Speech, and Theater and directed the school's theatre productions.
Robert was a co-founding artistic director of TILT Performance Group in Austin, Texas, where he directed productions from 2013-2016. TILT Performance Group was a theatre company in Austin, TX, committed to creating original, live theatre and practicing collaborative creation, staging unique productions of established work, providing adults with special needs and unique abilities the opportunity to participate in the creation and performance of professional theater, and providing audiences the opportunity to enhance their understanding of those with unique abilities.
Born in Bethesda, Maryland, Robert grew up in Villa Park, Illinois, had middle and high school years in Tucson, Plano, El Paso, and San Antonio, and finally landed in Austin, Texas to attend the University of Texas. He currently lives in Austin.
